About The Red House:
The Red House is the oldest standing house on Roque Island. It had already been constructed when Joseph Peabody first purchased Roque in 1806. It’s true age is not known. It was reconstructed with a new cellar in 1948, and its kitchen renovated in 2001.

This is a list of the basic staples available in the Red House. If you need anything else, please use the grocery form or inform the staff.

House Cleaning
When leaving, please do the following:
- Beds stripped;
- Linen & towels placed in laundry area;
- Books, games, etc. put away in their proper places;
- All waste baskets emptied;
- All horizontal surfaces in the kitchen wiped;
- Dishes washed;
- Refrigerators cleaned out (leave only condiments).
Please note: Leave the houses as you found them. If extra cleaning is required by the cleaners, a fee may be assessed.
Members with back-to-back reservations at a house may waive the cleaning requirement. Please inform the manager of such arrangements.
Island Use Fees and Per Diems • $140/day
All hosting members will incur an Island Use Fee of $140 per day of occupancy. In order to more accurately reflect the impact each visitor has on island resources, an additional surcharge of $100 per day will be included in the use fee for hosts of groups with 13 or more guests.
Per Diems for the Red House • $200/day • Large Groups (7+) $300/day
The Trustees have set a per diem rate in the Red House of $200 for groups with a cumulative total of 6 or less and $300 for larger groups. This rate does not include the daily use fee.
Off-Season Rates • $125/day • Large Groups (7+) $225/day
There is a reduced rate for the “shoulder seasons”. i.e. May and October, of $125/$225.
Red House Cancellations and Changes
After the Annual Meeting, any changes in reservations must be communicated to the reservation’s person by phone or e-mail 30 days prior to the scheduled visit or the Member will remain responsible for the per diem obligation for the entire reservation, unless a replacement can be found. Cancellations before the Annual Meeting are permitted without penalty.
Additional dates that become available through cancellations will be posted on the Roque Island website.

Constructed in 1898, the Monks House was also known as “The New House,” and was also thought of as “The House that Isabella Built”. Willard T. Sears, who had designed ISG’s home in Boston (the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum) was the architect, and Andrew Gilson of Machias was the builder. It’s total cost was approximately $10,000.

Constructed in 1820. Total cost: $22,762. Originally called The New House; also known as Farm House (John Shorey), Old Farm House (J.P. Monks), Gardner House, and Homestead. The Old Farm House was renovated and dedicated to Gardner use in 1939.

Patten’s Cove is named after Joseph Patten, a shipbuilder from Columbia Falls, who owned interest in Roque Island before Joseph Peabody’s purchase in 1806. The first pier was constructed there in 1926. The cabin was renovated in 2014 and has been dedicated to family use. It is a true cabin in the woods. Sign-up is first come/first served.

- 18 – 21 yr olds may reserve with sponsorship of a member in good standing.
Per Diem: $50/night
The Island Use Fee is waived for cabin users.
